Acme Markets Bids For Southeast, Mahopac A&P Stores

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Acme Markets, Inc. has submitted bids for A&P stores in Mahopac and Southeast, which is in connection with the fellow supermarket chain's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in federal court.

The Southeast store is located at 1511 Route 22, while the Mahopac store is at 3 Village Center.

The Putnam stores are among 120 that A&P has lined up outside bidders for. Other bidders include Stop & Shop and Key Food.

The three companies are called stalking horse bidders, which means that they will acquire the stores if no competing bids come forward for an auction.

A&P's auction timeline includes a Sept. 11 deadline for bidders to file binding offers. Bidders who meet certain criteria will earn "qualified" bid status, making them eligible to go forward with the auction, according to the bankruptcy filing. There is a Sept. 18 deadline to publish qualified bidders. If there are competing bidders, auctions will be held on Sept. 24 to 25, with a hearing to follow on Oct. 1. If no qualified bidders emerge, the hearing will be on Sept. 22.

Meanwhile, the fate of an A&P in Patterson is unknown. The store, which is located at 3101 Route 22, is among 176 that are not linked to a bidder.

The terms set forth in A&P's filing call for bidders to bid for clusters of stores that correspond to the stalking horse bidders' packages.

A&P's bankruptcy court filing can be read here. The list of stores with bidders is on pages 75 to 79.

The potential expansion would be mean an added footprint for Acme, which is a subsidiary of Albertsons Companies, Inc. The parent company is also in the process of going public, having submitted a regulatory filing earlier this month. The filing can be read here, while related documents are available here.
