"Iterations" is a project, process and body of art resulting from a six-month mail-based exchange by six local artists. The artists circulated 30 paper canvases measuring 10 by 10 inches in a round-robin alphabetical sequence based on first names. Each participant maintained a process journal to track the evolution of each piece over time.
“Members were free to meet with, speak to and email one another throughout 'iterations,'” said project member and Mahopac resident Georgine Honohan. “The project design was structured, but we had full creative autonomy. We placed no restrictions on how to work with or respond to the pieces we received, making canvases larger or smaller, or differently shaped; using any medium(s) or mark-making techniques; and, covering, highlighting or leaving alone any prior marking.”
Along with Honohan, the projects other members are Charlotte Berwind, Christopher Staples, Claudine Mussuto, Joann Zwolski and Laura Paradiso. They met one another at the Putnam Arts Council in Mahopac and at Arts on the Lake in Carmel.
The exhibit will feature 14 of the project's original 30 paintings and solo canvases by each artist.
