"Lace" brings together a mix of works by local artists as well as crafters who knit, stitch and embroider their handiwork. It is the first open call for artwork solicited for the library’s Third Floor Gallery.

In response to the call, the library received a number of handmade items, including a broomstick lace shawl and a scarf by Ursel Torrente, a lace mask and necklace created by Debbie Tocidlowski and a lace table cover made by Margot Adams.

Additional knitted items include colorful shawls made of wool, silk and alpaca produced by Inge Stahl and Tonia Olseo-Rubeo.

Paintings, watercolors and collages featuring lace or lacey images were also submitted to this theme show. Janice A. Hyde incorporates a variety of lace into her mixed-media narrative pieces titled “Dream” and “Lace Maker."

Gail Ellspermann, Cindy Green, Sally Jarvis, Barbara Sferra and Joyce Sullivan use pieces of lace and other material to construct intricate, textured works.

Maria Kaprielian’s watercolor titled “Skinner with Lace" features an inquisitive cat perched on a doily.

Visitors to the Mahopac Public Library can view the “Lace” show in the Third Floor Gallery during regular library hours.

Artists interested in submitting a proposal for individual and group exhibits can obtain an exhibition application at the library’s information desk or online at www.mahopaclibrary.org.

Proposals are being solicited for shows to be held in the Third Floor Gallery from July through December. Preference is given to work completed by professional and emerging artists within the last two years; artists should bear in mind the need for a consistent and very strong body of work when submitting.

The deadline for proposals is Monday, April 18. For further information, call 845-628-2009, ext 108.

The library is at 668 Route 6, Mahopac.
