Two employees of Suffolk County smoke shops were arrested for selling cannabis without a license during a compliance check on Friday, Dec. 13, Suffolk County police announced. A 56-year-old man from Islip was convicted of sexually abusing his daughter over the course of two years, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on Thursday, Dec. 12. A Long Island man will spend more than a decade in prison for forcing an 18-year-old homeless woman into prostitution. Javesh Persaud, 34, of Shirley, was sentenced to 12 years behind bars in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Dec. 11, after pleading guilty to sex trafficking and related charges. Two years after a beloved husband and father was killed in a hit-and-run crash on the Long Island Expressway, police are no closer to catching his killer. Robert Twiford, age 61, of Melville, died Dec. 5, 2022, after being struck on the off-ramp of eastbound I-495 at exit 60 in Ronkonkoma. Fatal House Fire Breaks Out In Suffolk County
A house fire on Long Island claimed one life. A 911 call reporting a blaze at a residence in Mattituck on the 4500 block of Middle Road in Mattituck on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 9:45 a.m. Multiple fire departments arrived, and while three individuals managed to escape unharmed, a body was later discovered inside. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the identity and cause of death for the victim.
