3 Rescued After Dive Boat Sinks Near 1888 Shipwreck Off Nassau County Three people were rescued after their diving boat sank near the site of a shipwreck off the coast of Long Island. It happened at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, nearly three miles southwest of Long Beach. The US Coast Guard Sector Long Island responded after receiving text messages saying a boat was taking on water near the SS Iberia shipwreck with three people in the water. Coast Guard Suspends Search For Possible Missing Kayaker On Long Island Search crews have suspended efforts to locate a potentially missing kayaker near Long Island. A boater contacted the US Coast Guard at around 12:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, after spotting an unmanned 15-foot kayak near the village Lloyd Harbor. The kayak was found to be carrying live bait, a fishing pole, and a backpack, officials said. Multiple Coast Guard vessels and helicopters, along with search crews from Nassau and Suffolk counties, spent over 27 hours searching more than 460 square miles but did not locate anyone.
