80-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed In Early-Morning Crash On Long Island
A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV on Long Island during the early morning hours of Monday, June 15, police announced.
Richard Jennings, 80, of Brentwood, was standing in the eastbound lane of Suffolk Avenue near Fulton Street in Brentwood when he was hit by a 2017 Ford Escape at approximately 2:20 a.m., according to Suffolk County Police.
The vehicle was driven by Britney Barbaron Rojas, 23, of Islip Terrace, police said.
Jennings was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. Barbaron Rojas was treated for minor injuries.

Shooter Captured After Pulling Gun During Argument On Long Island; 2 Wounded
A man has been arrested for allegedly shooting two people during a neighborhood argument, police announced on Wednesday, June 3.
Matthew McCue, 37, of Woodside Road, Mastic Beach, was charged in connection with the shooting that left a man and woman injured outside a Mastic Beach home on Monday night, according to Suffolk County Police.
McCue is charged with two counts of Attempted Assault First Degree, two counts of Assault Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon Second Degree, and Reckless Endangerment First Degree, police said.

A driver who caused a wrong-way crash was killed and three more were injured in a five-car wreck in the Hamptons on Wednesday, March 4, authorities said.
Anasser Almontaser, a 33-year-old Staten Island man, was driving a 2014 GMC van eastbound on County Road 39 when he crossed into the westbound lanes for unknown reasons and struck four other vehicles, Southampton Town Police said.

A Long Island teenager will spend years behind bars after fleeing a car crash that severed a woman’s legs and injured five others.
Valdemar Meza-Martinez, 17, of Brentwood, was sentenced to 1⅓ to 4 years in prison in Suffolk County Court Wednesday, Jan. 14, after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of a serious injury crash.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 4, 2024, on Patton Avenue in Wyandanch, according to the Suffolk County DA’s office.
