Sullivan was injured after being struck during a traffic stop on the Thruway in Bethlehem, New York State Police announced on Friday, Aug. 8. The crash happened at about 8:44 a.m. when Sullivan’s patrol vehicle was hit on the driver’s side by a 2017 Subaru Forester while she was parked on the northbound side conducting a stop, according to state police. Investigators said the Subaru’s driver swerved onto the left shoulder to avoid a tractor trailer changing lanes, over-corrected, lost control, and struck both the patrol vehicle and the stopped car. Man Struck, Killed By SUV Was Inspecting Car After Minor Crash On NY Thruway, Police Say A man who was involved in a minor crash on the New York Thruway was killed when he stepped out of his vehicle to inspect the damage and was struck by a 2018 Ford SUV.  Saul Clark, 55, of Paterson, New Jersey, had gotten out of his vehicle in the southbound lanes of I-87 in West Nyack when he was struck by the passing SUV driven by a Nyack woman just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel said.
