Two NJ Corrections Officers Die By Suicide On Same Day, One In Jail Parking Lot: Officials
Two Essex County corrections officers died by suspected suicide on the same day, authorities confirmed.
Officer Joey Hernandez's death occurred outside the Essex County Jail, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said, while Sgt. Joseph Trezza committed suicide in Roxbury, according to Carmen Martin, a spokesperson for the ECPO.
Both deaths happened on Tuesday, May 6 but are unrelated, Martin said.

A 15-year-old boy is accused of stabbing his mother and brutally killing his grandmother in their Selden home during a fight over his laptop, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced on Thursday, April 17.
The attack happened on the 800 block of Old Town Road around 9:40 p.m. on Monday, April 7, police and prosecutors said.

Man Shoots Woman, Kills Himself In Long Island Home: Police
A 66-year-old man shot and seriously injured a woman before killing himself at a home in Ridge, Suffolk County Police said on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Gerard Senatore, a resident of the home, shot a 68-year-old woman twice before barricading himself inside the house, police said. Officers from the Seventh Precinct responded to a 911 call about the shooting at 28 Woodbrook Drive at 12:56 p.m., according to police.

A teenager is facing charges after an alleged reckless driving crash on Long Island that left a Good Samaritan disfigured.
Marianne Mkrtchian, 19, of North Bellmore, was indicted for assault and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Friday, Feb. 7, in connection with a North Babylon crash in August 2024.
Mkrtchian was speeding eastbound on Skidmore Road in a Mercedes Benz sedan when she ran a stop sign at Lloyd Avenue at around 6 p.m. on Aug. 27, 2024, the Suffolk County DA’s office said.
