Officers from the Red Hook Police Department were on patrol at approximately 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4 on Route 9G when a driver in a 2004 Audi modified sports car passed allegedly driving 166 mph in a posted 55 mph speed zone.
Police said that the officer activated its emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the driver - later identified as 27-year-old Staatsburg resident Kolby Schroder - who refused to comply and continued northbound at a high rate of speed.
While attempting to avoid officers, Schroder proceeded to rear-end the vehicle of another driver, ending the pursuit quickly. No injuries were reported to Schroder or the woman who he struck.
Schroder was subsequently arrested by police and charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, reckless driving and unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle. He was also cited for multiple traffic infractions. He has since been released and is due back in Town of Red Hook Court on Oct. 26 to answer the charges.
