A Long Island man out on parole shot and killed a man who had been sleeping in a car, a jury found. Kadeem Lewis, age 31, of Hempstead, was found guilty of second-degree murder and related charges in Nassau County Court on Thursday, Oct. 31, in the killing of Jose Sanchez-Velasquez. Authorities are asking for help in locating a missing teenager from Long Island. Ariya Shingler, age 14, was last seen leaving Hempstead High School at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, according to Nassau County Police. She was reported missing Wednesday afternoon. A man has been apprehended after police say he forcibly touched a teenager and then attacked responding officers at a mall on Long Island.
