Combative 20-Year-Old Busted With 'Ghost' Gun During Capital Region Traffic Stop, Police Say
A routine traffic stop in the region ended with a 20-year-old in handcuffs on weapons charges. The Saratoga County incident happened just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, in Halfmoon on Tower Way. State Police said 20-year-old Shawn Koenig, of Pittsfield in Rensselaer County, was initially stopped for a vehicle and traffic law violation. The trooper ordered him out of the car for a standardized field sobriety test, but Koenig reportedly refused to cooperate. Two brothers are facing charges after allegedly stealing farming equipment from a property in the region. Saratoga County residents Nicholas and Lee Scoville, both of Stillwater, were arrested Friday, Dec. 22, on multiple charges. New York State Police said a Stillwater resident contacted the agency on Sunday, Dec. 10 saying a plow had been stolen from their property. Troopers determined that Nicholas Scoville stole the plow and then stored it at his brother’s Stillwater property, police said. Friends and family are mourning the loss of a beloved college student from the region following her death from cancer. Saratoga County resident Sophia John, of Ballston Spa, died Monday, Dec. 18, at the age 19 after a short battle with leukemia, according to her obituary. John graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 2022 and was a sophomore at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, where she was majoring in corporate finance and accounting. A woman from the region is accused of pulling a fast one on a car seller by using counterfeit money to steal their vehicle. State Police in Rensselaer County said troopers were first contacted in July 2023 by a Troy resident claiming that a woman had tried to purchase their car using fraudulent money. The woman allegedly gave the victim multiple counterfeit bills in exchange for a car that had been listed on Facebook Marketplace. Man Attacks Victim With Bear Spray Outside Capital Region Business, Police Say
A man is facing charges after allegedly attacking a person with bear spray outside a convenience store in the region. The Saratoga County incident happened at around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, in Malta, at the X-Tra Mart on Highway 9. Sheriff’s deputies said Jorge Torres, age 44, who is homeless, sprayed a man known to him with bear spray, hitting him in the face.
