Tropical Storm Erin is gaining strength over the open Atlantic, with forecasters warning that the system could soon become one of the most powerful storms of the year, with parts of the East Coast potentially in its eventual path.

Weather officials have issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for a large swath of eastern New York, including the Hudson Valley, Capital Region, and parts of the Adirondacks, due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter in the air.
