Thousands of New Yorkers stepped up to help save lives this summer, all while scoring a sweet reward.
More than 10,000 generous donors rolled up their sleeves in June for the 10th annual Give A Pint, Get A Pint campaign—an effort between Stewart’s Shops and the American Red Cross of Eastern New York.
The math? 10,479 blood donations, including 745 first-timers, resulting in enough blood to help 30,000 patients in need, the convenience store chain announced.

Christmas is usually a season of joy and family gatherings. But for the homeless or lonely, it can be challenging to cope.
To help, the First Baptist Church of Spring Valley will serve Christmas dinner and distribute coats and food packages to the homeless, indigent, and lonely on Christmas Day.
Deacon Michael Williams said the church, whose theme is "Love thy Neighbor," will also deliver dinners and food packages to homebound members, their neighbors, and the homeless in Spring Valley and surrounding communities.

Fire Company In Region Financial Secretary Admits Stealing $17K, DA Says
A financial secretary for a fire company in the region has admitted to stealing more than $17,000 from the department.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced on Friday, Nov. 1, that Lynn T. Simpson, age 43, of Wallkill, pled guilty to grand larceny in the Third Degree in connection with the theft of $17,947 from the parade fund of the Washington Heights Fire Company in Middletown.
As part of the plea agreement, Simpson will repay all the stolen money, Hoovler said.
