DWI Arrest: Car Burns, Suspect's Brother Involved In Bystander Scuffle In NY, Police Say A drunk driver was arrested in Rockland County after his vehicle went up in flames, police said.  The incident happened on Sunday, Sept. 21, around 7:30 p.m. in Ramapo, when officers responded to a vehicle fire on College Road near Highview Road. The car was fully engulfed when police arrived and was found to be unoccupied, according to Ramapo Police.  Police said the driver stayed at the scene and was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated. 'Fire Risk Warning' Issued For 62K+ Chevy Trucks, Sparking Massive Recall: Here's Why General Motors is recalling more than 62,000 trucks after finding that brake fluid can leak and potentially spark a fire. GM issued the recall for about 62,468 Chevrolet Silverado trucks, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The affected models include the 2019-2024 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD.  One vehicle fire has been reported, but no injuries or crashes have been linked to the issue, according to the NHTSA. Mail Thief Nabbed After Making High-Speed Escape In Hudson Valley An 18-year-old man was nabbed by police for allegedly stealing mail that contained personal financial information out of residential mailboxes with two accomplices. Lt. Daniel Schoales of the Stony Point Police said Mahamadou Sissoko, of the Bronx, was charged on Thursday, Jan. 8, for the crimes committed on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, in Tompkins Cove. Car Engulfed In Flames On Parkway In Region Car Engulfed In Flames On Parkway In Region
Car Engulfed In Flames On Parkway In Region A vehicle fire prompted an early morning response on the Taconic State Parkway. The blaze happened on Saturday, Oct. 19 around 8:30 a.m. in Northern Westchester, when an SUV caught on fire on the southbound side in Hawthorne. Arriving fire crews soon found the vehicle consumed by flames and quickly hosed it down, putting the blaze out completely.  The response took around an hour and sent plumes of smoke up into the air on the parkway, as seen in images of the fire released on the Hawthorne Fire Department's social media page.  No injuries were reported.

Fatal Crash, Car Fire: Woman ID'd As Victim In Single-Vehicle Capital Region Wreck Authorities have identified a woman who died in a single-vehicle crash and car fire in the region. The Saratoga County wreck happened at around 10:20 a.m. Friday, May 17, in Clifton Park. Sheriff’s officials said emergency crews were called about a single-vehicle crash and subsequent car fire that occurred on North Parkwood Drive near State Route 9. The female driver and sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. No other cars were involved and nobody else was injured.
