US Army Air Forces Staff Sergeant Eugene J. Darrigan, 26, was killed on March 11, 1944, when his B-24D “Liberator” bomber, Heaven Can Wait, crashed into the waters off New Guinea during a World War II bombing mission. More than a year of agonizing uncertainty has come to a tragic end for the family of a New York native thought to have been taken hostage during the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
Omer Neutra, from Long Island’s Plainview, was killed during the attacks that claimed the lives of another 1,200 men, women, and children, the Israeli government confirmed Monday, Dec. 2.

NY 'Hero' Dies Saving Drowning Child: 'Was Life Of Every Party'
Jamie Lambros died a hero.
The 48-year-old New York resident, from Long Island's Deer Park, died Monday, Oct. 7, while trying to save a young boy and his mother in the waters of Bermuda.
Lambros was enjoying a family vacation at Horseshoe Bay Beach when he noticed the 10-year-old boy struggling and went in after him, his friend, Chris Pompeo, said on Facebook. The child and his mother survived, but Lambros drowned.
