Fires Prompt Recall Of E-Bike Batteries Sold On Amazon, Walmart
Tens of thousands of lithium-ion batteries sold with electric bicycles have been recalled due to fire and burn hazards. VIVI has issued the recall for about 24,000 lithium-ion batteries for e-bikes, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday, July 17. The batteries can overheat, increasing the risk of injury or death. At least 14 incidents have been reported, including three fires. No injuries have been reported, according to the CPSC. Chain Guard Dangers Force Recall Of Popular E-Bikes Due To Falling Risks
Tens of thousands of electric bicycles have been recalled due to a defect that could cause riders to fall. Specialized Bicycle Components issued the recall for more than 32,000 of its Vado and Como IGH e-bikes, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a news release on Thursday, Mar. 27. The problem affects e-bikes with a faulty chain or belt guard that doesn't fully cover the belt drive. Loose clothing can get caught in the exposed belt, posing a fall hazard. Fatal Crash: 22-Year-Old ID'd As Victim In Capital Region
A 22-year-old was killed in a two-vehicle crash in the region. It happened around 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, in Schoharie County in the town of Seward. An electric bicycle being operated by Mackenzie T. Bamberger of Cobleskill entered the intersection from Hill Road. It was then struck by a vehicle northbound on State Route 10, according to New York State Police. The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and called for emergency services.
