Higginson decided to travel to Denmark after learning that she had ancestors from the country.
"I was excited to explore my Nordic roots," Higginson, who went to Copenhagen said.
In Copenhagen, Higginson explored castles, restored Viking ships, museums and took a canal tour of the city.
"I have come to feel much closer to my ancestors and more aware of the kind of lives they must have led," Higginson said. "I will never forget the majestic beauty of Kronborg Castle. It is where "Hamlet" takes place and is often called Hamlet's castle.
Higginson was also lucky to miss out on the cold weather in New York.
"It was warmer in Copenhagen than here," Higginson said. "They embrace the outdoors, people still bicycling, all the cafes, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, have outdoor seating and heat lamps."
