Fire Destroys Elmont Senior Center: Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad A fire destroyed an abandoned senior center on Foster Meadow Lane in Elmont early Saturday, Dec. 14, police announced. Officers and firefighters responded to a blaze at 1888 Foster Meadow Lane at 12:01 a.m., according to the Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad. The structure was fully engulfed when firefighters from Elmont and multiple surrounding departments arrived, investigators said. The Nassau County Fire Marshal and the Arson Bomb Squad were called to the scene as crews worked to extinguish the flames. 48-Year-Old Dies From Injuries Days After Hit-Run Nassau County Crash A man has died from injuries several days after a hit-and-run crash on Long Island. The victim was struck by a vehicle in Elmont at around 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 while crossing Hempstead Turnpike at Elmont Road.  The vehicle left the scene westbound on Hempstead Turnpike, Nassau County Police said. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
