SWAT Standoff Ends With Weapons Seized In Union
Authorities said they seized several weapons after an hours-long SWAT standoff in Union ended peacefully Monday night. The home on Arnet Avenue off Morris Avenue was evacuated of family members in the standoff, which began around 7:40 p.m. with a report of a man armed with a shotgun barricaded inside, responders said. The Union County Emergency Response Team, which includes SWAT team members and negotiators, joined police, firefighters and EMTs. Police Standoff With Suicidal Rahway Man Ends Peacefully
A police standoff with an armed and suicidal man barricaded in a Rahway apartment ended peacefully after nearly two hours Tuesday. Authorities responded to an East Cherry Street apartment on reports of a man who was possibly suicidal and armed with a gun around 2:30 p.m., Rahway police said. Officers found the man -- who told police he was armed with a gun and suicidal -- barricaded in his apartment and refusing to come out. Roselle Park Police Mourn Off-Duty Officer Who Authorities Said Shot Himself Dead In SUV Crash
The Roselle Park Police Department is mourning an officer who authorities said was off duty when he shot and killed himself after his car crashed into a pair of parked vehicles Sunday in Matawan. Edward Nortrup, 39, was behind the wheel of his SUV when it partially rolled over after crashing near a two-story home on Broad Street across from the borough's municipal center, trapping him, around noon, authorities said Monday.
