Adult, Three Kids Stricken By CO Poisoning In Hackensack Home
A holiday season tragedy was avoided Tuesday when a Hackensack woman and three young children were hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning, authorities said. A malfunctioning boiler in their two-family home on Atlantic Street off Railroad Avenue sent all four to Hackensack University Medical Center early on Dec. 6, said Police Capt. Michael Antista, the officer in charge of the city police department. No foul play was suspected in the death of a homeless man found in back of a Dunkin' Donuts in Hackensack, authorities said. The body was found behind a dumpster in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot on Passaic Street off Railroad Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, responders said. The Hispanic man, believed to be in his 30s, apparently had been camped out behind the trash bin, they said. Hackensack police were trying to determine how a city man ended up unconscious behind a trash bin down the street from his home. The 44-year-old victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center after he was found around 8:30 a.m. Friday on the property of Prismatx Decal on Railroad Avenue next to the Leckie Bus Company lot and across from the NJ Transit tracks. A 75-year-old Lodi man was critically injured when he was struck while jaywalking in Hackensack before dawn Wednesday, police said.Jose Gonzalez-Gonzalez was unconscious when he was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries after being struck crossing Essex Street near Railroad Avenue at 6:25 a.m. crash, Capt. Nicole Foley said. The 32-year-old female driver of the westbound 2018 Honda HRV that hit him remained at the scene, Foley said. A 32-year-old woman and two children were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries after being struck by a sedan while crossing the street Wednesday, authorities said. The Hackensack driver told police he was headed east on Essex Street around 8:40 p.m., when the car in front of him stopped shortly, according to city police Capt. Nicole Foley said.
