Efforts To Find Kidney For North Jersey Grandma Intensify
Several years have passed since a North Jersey man began a tireless campaign to find a kidney donor for his grandmother. But TJ Sullivan isn't giving up. Theresa Labarck, 69, of Wayne "is one of the strongest women I know," said Sullivan, of Saddle Brook. "Her positive attitude and determination to stick around for her family has kept her alive this long." It's also kept Sullivan pursuing all avenues to keep the spotlight on LaBarck -- aka "Mommom" -- who for the past three decades has lived with polycystic kidney disease (PKD). His efforts include a recently-launched GoFundMe campaign to…

Dedicated North Jersey EMT Starting Dialysis Desperately Seeks Kidney Donor
A dedicated and passionate North Jersey EMT is desperately seeking a kidney donor as he begins dialysis treatments after years of battling chronic disease. Reid Cappel, an Atlantic Health EMT from Harding Township, has been living with one kidney for years after his diagnosis with the chronic disease at age 21, he said. "Growing up I had a lot of stomach issues", said Cappel, according to the Madison NJ PBA. “When I was 21 years old, they found a massive tumor where the other kidney should have been. Luckily it wasn't cancerous, but I've been dealing with Chronic Kidney Disease since the…

Life ‘Turned Upside Down’ For Diabetic Morris County Mom Desperate For Kidney Donor — Again
A Morris County mom’s life has been “turned upside down” after she said she is desperately searching for a kidney donor for the second time. Debra Kaufman, 60, first developed end-stage renal disease after suffering from a related issue during her pregnancy several years prior. “I developed pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure) and was hospitalized for five weeks prior to delivery,” Kaufman recalled of the 1985 birth of her son, Bryan. “This condition led to end stage renal disease eight years later.” After undergoing several months of dialysis, Kaufman, of Denville, received a kidney donati…

Parsippany Man, 25, Endures Daily Dialysis While Searching For Kidney Donor
The community has gotten behind a 25-year-old Morris County man on a quest for a new kidney. Brandon Tellawy of Parsippany has been enduring daily dialysis treatments after he was diagnosed with kidney failure last year. Tellawy, who grew up in Kinnelon, was forced to put his pursuit of pharmacology on hold to keep up with his intensive treatment, which requires four nightly cycles of fluid to be pumped through his abdomen, Daily Record reports. Tellawy awaits a kidney transplant, and while his O-negative blood type makes him a universal donor, the same can’t be said when it comes to the …

19 Concerns Block Kidney Transplant For Popular Bergen Baker, Now His Life’s At Stake
Franklin Lakes baker Tom Minardi was all set to get the kidney he needs to stay alive when a suspension of elective surgeries in New Jersey in response to the coronavirus pandemic postponed the procedure. Then came word that the donor backed out. A man who has spent his life doing for others now needs a hero of his own. “He was scheduled to have his transplant this spring,” Minardi’s children wrote in a post, “but due to COVID-19, it was put on hold.” “When his hospital began to schedule transplants again, we unexpectedly and sadly got the call that his donor backed out,” they wrote. “He …

Saddle Brook Man Boosts 80s Versus 90s Party 'Battle' To Aid Grandma With Kidney Disease
Boosted by a victory by researchers, a Saddle Brook man is hosting a blow-out “Battle of the Decades” (the 80s and 90s) fundraiser to help his grandmother deal with a little-known kidney disease. Some of the proceeds from the fourth annual fundraiser at the Ridgefield Park Knights of Columbus hall will go toward finding a cure for polycystic kidney disease, otherwise known as PKD, said TJ Sullivan. The rest goes toward raising money for “the inevitable transplant surgery and costly medical bills our family will need to face,” he said. Theresa LaBarck – or "MomMom" as Sullivan calls her – …

Ridgefield Marine's Car Was Ruined On Veteran's Day, Friend Hoping To Help
What should have been an honorable day for U.S. Marine Charles Whitlock of Ridgefield went terribly wrong when he hit a flood while driving on Route 46. It not only severely damaged his SUV -- it left Whitlock unable to get to and from his job on Long Island. Hoping to help him, a longtime friend has launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising the estimated $5,000 he needs to repair the SUV or use to buy a replacement. "He is a Marine in everything he does," said Robin Daghlian-Curasco. That includes paying it forward. In 2004, chemical exposure during his service in the Gulf…
