St. Mary's has had several socials this year, but committee chairperson Carmine Devito believes the Dec. 19 mixer will be the largest yet.
"It's under the umbrella of St. Mary's, so you're not going to a bar," he said. "You're not going to be exploited with these [expensive] drinks or cover charges."
The Lenox Avenue event will begin with line dances to get people moving. There will also be raffles and music to listen to.
The events began with mostly Pompton Lakes residents, but Devito said he's recently seen people from other towns, as well.
Devito said he hadn't heard of any marriages from the socials -- but that doesn't mean he isn't hoping for some. Right now, it's all about making connections and having fun.
"There's a big gap for people to get out there not in a bar setting and socialize," he said. "I've had people come and say, 'My wife died a year ago and i've done nothing, but I came here and had a good time.'"
