The lines proposed by Pilgrim would carry crude oil 178 miles from Albany, N.Y. to Linden, and in reverse move refined products from Linden to Albany. Preliminary plans show the pipelines crossing Federal Hill, about three-quarters of a mile from residences in the Van Dam Avenue area, the story said.
The mayor said the borough had three options: do nothing, adopt a zoning ordinance prohibiting unregulated pipelines, or pass zoning to permit pipelines in specific areas, the story said. He said he would oppose permitting pipelines, Northjersey.com said.
