Bloomingdale Library Adds New Children's Coordinator

BLOOMINGDALE, N.J. — The latest stop in Emily Macleod's journey brought her to the Bloomingdale Free Public Library after her beginnings in Hillsdale and a five-year stay in England.

Macleod recently became the children's program coordinator in Bloomingdale after working at a library while in England for five years.

"It was a good experience, but I wanted to come back to New Jersey," she told Daily Voice.

Macleod lives in Hillsdale and graduated from Pascack Valley High School in 2006. She then went to Texas Woman's University to study library science.

It's a bit different working in Bloomingdale compared to England but she said she likes her new spot.

"The community seems to be welcoming me with open arms and are really receptive to my ideas," she said. "I look forward to getting to know them better."

Macleod spent much of her time so far meeting people and said they are very passionate about the library.

In the spring, she hopes to reach out more to middle school-aged kids. The library had a creative writing program last year and Macleod said she wants to bring it back.

It all boils down to building a following, she said.

"I think a lot of families around here might know the library's here," she said, "but they might not necessarily know what the library has to offer."
