The VFW Hall on Wanaque Avenue will host a pasta and meatball dinner at no charge for veterans at 5 p.m. This will be the first such event in Pompton Lakes, according to event organizer Dave Rowan.

Rowan's family features several veterans who served in World War II. He wanted to do something special for them and their peers.

"Pompton Lakes was always a family town, it supports its veterans," Rowan told Daily Voice. "Pompton Lakes has a lot of history with being patriotic."

The Pompton Lakes Republican Club will sponsor the event.

The main challenge has been spreading the word, Republican Club President Frank Abate said. He expects 30 to 50 people.

"It's something that everyone I have had the chance to talk to gets enthusiastic about," Abate said.

Boniello's Restaurant in Riverdale will provide the food while local DJ Joseph Vagnato will handle the music.

Abate said he expects at least one World War II veteran plus more from the Vietnam and Korean wars. At the end of the dinner they will all take a photo together to have something to remember, he said.

Non-veterans can attend for $6. Reservations are due by Nov. 9.

TO ATTEND: Call Atabe at (973) 616-3587 or Rowan at (973) 513-9584.
