Wayne police say this incident involved a 44-year-old Queens, NY man, who had drowned in a backyard pool on Rutgers Court. Officers responded to a home on Rutgers Court around 10:36 p.m. Saturday, July 19, after a report of a car crashing into a swimming pool. Millions of backyard pools sold nationwide are being recalled after nine toddlers drowned in them, officials said. The recall affects 48-inch and taller above-ground pools made by Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Monday, July 21. About five million of the pools have been sold in the US since 2002, including some currently available online and in stores. A 19-year-old man is in serious condition after being pulled from a backyard pool during a gathering in Clifton on Saturday afternoon, July 19, authorities said. First responders were dispatched around 4:34 p.m. to a home on Lennon Place after a 911 call reported a person in distress, Clifton Lt. Robert Anderson said. A 5-year-old boy died Friday night, July 18 after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool in Wayne, officials said. Officers responded to a home in the area of Armstrong Avenue and Maple Lane around 6:30 p.m., on a report of a possible drowning, Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a news release. According to witnesses at the scene, a 5-year-old boy had been located floating in a pool after he had left his residence unaccompanied by an adult at about 5:30 p.m., Valdes said.
