Hiker Injured After Fleeing Black Bear In Round Valley Recreation Area A 40-year-old hiker was injured after they fled from a black bear in Hunterdon County Monday, July 20, authorities said. State Park police responded to Round Valley Recreation Area after a hiker encountered a black bear while walking toward Cushetunk Mountain, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection said. The hiker ran after seeing the bear and tripped and sustained cuts from brush and other vegetation, DEP said. There was no physical contact between the bear and the hiker, DEP said.  The hiker was transferred to a nearby hospital, DEP said.
