Nine NJ High Schools Ranked Among Top 100 Nationally, Including Best In STEM: See Which Ones
More than two dozen high schools across the Northeast have been recognized among the top 100 in the US, according to a new ranking.
The U.S. News & World Report released its annual Best High School Rankings on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The 2025 list evaluated more than 24,000 public high schools nationwide based on test scores, college-level coursework, and graduation rates.

Hawthorne Native Megan Corcoran Dies, 24
Megan Corcoran, a Hawthorne native, died on Thursday, Aug. 14, according to her obituary on the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home website. She was 24 years old.
Megan graduated from Hawthorne High School in 2019 and went on to earn her bachelor's from Rowan University in 2024, her obituary says. She had been working as an admissions coordinator for the Recovery Centers of America in South Amboy, her obituary reads.

Bergen County mom Kelly McGrath Baratta died Friday, Aug. 8, after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. She was 40 years old.
A devoted wife and mother, McGrath-Baratta found her greatest joy in her husband Gerard and their two sons, Leo, 7, and Luca, 2 ½, according to her obituary on the Becker Funeral Home website. Mikie Sherill, the Democrat nominee for governor, announced Dr. Dale Caldwell as her pick for lieutenant governor on Friday, July 25.
