Ambulance Carjacked Outside NJ Hospital: Newark PD
An ambulance was carjacked outside a hospital in Newark early Thursday morning, Feb. 12, authorities said. At 2:41 a.m., officers responded to St. Michael's Hospital at 111 Central Ave. after two ambulance workers said they were in the vehicle when a man approached, forcibly removed the driver and ordered the passenger to exit, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said. The ambulance was recovered at 250 Central Ave., Miranda said. No injuries have been reported, but a cell phone was missing from the recovered vehicle, Miranda said. Driver Falls Asleep Behind Wheel, Pins, Seriously Injures Pedestrian In Elmwood Park: PD
A driver who fell asleep behind the wheel struck and seriously injured a pedestrian on Tuesday, Dec. 30 in Elmwood Park, police said (click here for photos from the crash). Officers responding to multiple 911 calls at approximately 12:20 p.m. found the pedestrian pinned between two damaged vehicles in front of Exotic Pets on Broadway, Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno said. Fight Brings Police, Ambulances To Paramus Catholic Football Game
A fight between two juveniles during the Paramus Catholic–St. Joseph’s high school football game brought a police presence and two ambulances to Paramus Catholic High School on Friday night, Sept. 19, authorities confirmed. Police Chief Robert Guidetti said the fight, which happened after the game, was broken up by other juveniles. Both involved had minor injuries, and no one was looking to sign complaints as of press time. The black box from the Jet Rescue Air Ambulance that crashed in Northeast Philadelphia has been located, providing investigators with a key piece of evidence to determine the cause of the deadly crash, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced Sunday evening, Feb. 2. Prosecutor IDs Man Killed In Bergen County House Fire
Authorities have identified the victim of Sunday night, Jan. 5's fatal house fire in Glen Rock. Firefighters found 82-year-old Frederick Visser unconscious on the first floor of 15 Birchwood Road shortly after the 9:21 p.m. fire broke out, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. First responders began CPR at the scene before Visser was taken to The Valley Hospital. He was later pronounced dead, Musella said. The fire did not appear to be suspicious in nature, said Musella, who did not reveal a cause.

Firefighter Injured During Santa Detail In Bergen County (

A Glen Rock volunteer firefighter was hospitalized Saturday night, Dec. 21, after sustaining a head injury during a "Santa Detail" event, according to incident reporter Boyd A. Loving. The 24-year-old firefighter was riding on top of a fire truck when his head was struck by a low-hanging tree branch on Doremus Avenue, near the Glen Rock Municipal Pool, Loving said. The injury, described as non-life-threatening, prompted an immediate response from local emergency services. Authorities have released body camera video of the incident when a Toms River man died while police tried to detain him. The state Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability made the footage public on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The video showed the Friday, Apr. 19 encounter that ended with the death of 47-year-old John Cassidy. An early-morning crash involving a box truck brought a large emergency response to Route 80 in Bergen County Friday, June 21. Firefighters were called to the westbound lanes at milepost 65.5 just after 3:20 a.m., where a Mercedes Benz had rear-ended a box truck, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.
