New Atlantic Tropical Storm Forms: What Fay’s Forecast Shows
A new named storm has emerged in the Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center said Sunday, Sept. 20, that Tropical Storm Fay formed in the northern Atlantic Ocean about 450 miles southwest of the Azores. Fay had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was moving north-northeast at 5 mph. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect. The storm is the sixth named system of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. Fay could gain a little strength during the next day or so.
