Teenager Fatally Shot In Irvington: Prosecutor
A 17-year-old was fatally shot in Irvington on the early morning of Wednesday, July 3, authorities said. At 1:26 a.m., police responded to a shooting on the 1100 block of Grove Street and found the teenage boy suffering from gunshot wounds, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Irvington Public Safety Director Tracy Bowers said. The teen was rushed to University Hospital in Newark where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. Charges have been filed against a 79-year-old Union County man who was arrested after a SWAT standoff early Wednesday, July 2. Kenneth Kutyla, of Clark, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a firearm, and possession of a firearm for unlawful purpose, local police said. A man was carjacked at gunpoint on the early morning of Wednesday, June 26, authorities said. Anthony Garvin, of Netcong, was charged with murder and possession of a firearm and lodged in the Berks County Jail in Leesport, PA, a spokesperson for the Warren County Prosecutor's Office said following the Thursday, June 28 incident. Man Shot In East Orange, Police Say
A 24-year-old East Orange man was shot on the evening of Monday, June 24, authorities said. At 7:25 p.m., officers responded to 210 S. Burnet Street and found the man shot in the right ankle, East Orange police said. He was treated and released from University Hospital, police said. Two people were struck by a driver who fled the scene in Newark on the early morning of Monday, June 24, authorities said. At 1:34 a.m., police responded to South Munn Avenue near Plymouth Street after an e-bike driver and his passenger were struck by a vehicle, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. An unlicensed 81-year-old out-of-state motorist drove an unregistered sedan on the grass median of Route 287 before she was stopped by police, authorities said.
