A New Jersey bill aimed at preventing outdated criminal records from appearing on background checks, if charges were being expunged, has been vetoed by Gov. Phil Murphy. The governor instead proposed an online tracking system and annual reporting requirements to address the state’s expungement backlog. Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-NJ, is the latest name to announce she is running for Governor of New Jersey. Sherrill, who was recently re-elected to a fourth term representing New Jersey's 11th Congressional District, declared her candidacy in a video on Monday, Nov. 18. Gov. Toms River Mom Looking For 'Fresh New Start' Loses Home In Fire, Fundraiser Says
A family was rallying for support after the home of a Toms River mother of two was severely damaged in a fire, according to a fundraising campaign. A GoFundMe page said a woman named Kristin, her daughter, and her son "lost everything" in the fire on Coolidge Avenue on Sunday, Nov. 10. Six People Displaced After Condo Complex Fire In South Jersey, Red Cross Says
At least six people were without homes after a fire broke out at a condominium complex near Mays Landing, officials said. Firefighters responded to the Woodlands Condominiums at around 11:33 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, the Laureldale Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company said in a Facebook post. The New Jersey Attorney General's Office has announced eight more cases of management companies and housing providers who discriminated against tenants on the basis of disability.
