Six-Year-Old Boy Killed, 17 Hospitalized In Central Jersey Apartment Fire (Update) A young boy was killed and 17 people were sent to hospitals when an apartment building caught fire in Ewing, authorities said. The six-year-old boy died in the blaze at the Cambridge Hall apartments on Lower Ferry Road on Thursday, Jan. 2, the Ewing Police Department said in a news release. Jay, of Hillsborough, died on Friday, Aug. 30, leaving behind his wife, Jennette and their three children, Jordan, James, and Joe. Air Force Firefighter, RWJ Paramedic Who Died Of Leukemia Saved First Life At 10 Robert J Conklin III, a New Jersey first responder and Air Force veteran, died on Monday, Aug. 12. He was 39 years old. Robert's mother, Arlene Savarese, said that he died of leukemia. Savarese said her son saved his first life at just 10 years old, when he performed the Heimlich maneuver on his aunt.  "The rest of the path was set for him," Savarese said. Robert went on to serve as a firefighter in the United States Air Force, helping to evacuate Afghanistan in 2021.
