Markies Wells, who also goes by Messiah Law-Elbey, was last seen at 4:08 a.m. on Friday, March 7, wearing a green jumpsuit, according to Ewing Police. He is described as 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, with a full beard and dreadlocks, police said.

Wells was accused of breaking into and illegally living in multiple homes in Monmouth County, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.

Keansburg police arrested Wells in March 2024 after he allegedly climbed through the back window of an abandoned Pine View Avenue home and changed the locks, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

In July 2024, Holmdel police discovered Wells had also taken over a foreclosed home on Middletown Road, Santiago said. He lived in the home, used utilities that had not been shut off, and let his three dogs cause extensive damage, Santiago said.

Investigators said Wells filed documents with the county clerk’s office falsely claiming ownership of both properties.

Wells was indicted on 13 charges, including:

  • Second-degree armed burglary
  • Second-degree theft
  • Third-degree burglary
  • Third-degree criminal mischief
  • Third-degree resisting arrest
  • Third-degree threatening to kill law enforcement
  • Fourth-degree falsifying records
  • Fourth-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose

When officers arrested Wells, he was armed with a knife and threatened to kill police, investigators said. He was ordered held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending trial, Santiago said.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Wells’ whereabouts to contact Human Services Police at 609-633-1935. If you see a man matching his description, do not approach him, officials warned. Instead, call 911 immediately.
