Barricaded Suspect Found Hiding In Crawl Space: Franklin Twp PD

A man was taken into custody after a seven hour standoff with officers in Newfield on Monday, March 3, authorities said.

At 12:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Woodlawn Avenue in Newfield Borough to serve a criminal arrest warrant out of Monroe Township, Franklin Township police said. The man was wanted on a domestic violence charge and endangering the welfare of a child stemming from an incident earlier that day, police saidd

Upon arrival, the man was seen at the front door and officers attempted to make contact with him, police said. Officers attempted several means of communication with the male; however, they were unsuccessful, police said.

At 2:15 p.m., the Gloucester County SWAT Team was dispatched to the scene to assist with what was now a criminal barricade, police said. A command post was established and the immediate area of Catawba Avenue and Woodlawn Avenue was shut down to motorists, police said. A shelter in place was also called for the residents effected by the ongoing police investigation, police said.

At 7:30 p.m., the Gloucester County SWAT Team was able to apprehend the suspect after locating him hiding in a crawl space inside the residence, police said. The man, who was not identified by police, was turned over to the Monroe Township Police Department for processing, officers said.
