A passenger in an unmarked taxi was carrying 750 bags of heroin for sale when Passaic County sheriff’s detectives converged on him in a Paterson computer store parking lot, authorities said. Acting on a complaint, investigators approached the vehicle – which had an inactive fare light and no logos or insignias – in the Mirco Center parking lot on McLean Boulevard just after 6 p.m. Monday, Sheriff Richard H. Hole Repair Jams Westbound Route 80 Traffic
UPDATE: Overnight repairs had to be made on a hole that opened on westbound Route 80 in Woodland Park after a drainpipe pipe below it collapsed. Monday night rush-hour traffic was backed up to the George Washington Bridge. The crack in the pipe, which connects basins at the median to the right shoulder, created a hole between the two left lanes. Drivers were urged to take alternate routes. A 12-year-old Totowa girl received sexually explicit texts and a gift in the mail from a 48-year-old Morris County man who works for an Essex County security company, said authorities who arrested him Monday. Chiuchiolo Jr. of Riverdale “communicated with the child for several weeks” before her mother discovered the texts, which purported to be from a man in his late teens, Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Garfield PD: Arrest Made In Street Mugging Of Woman From Woodland Park
A Clifton man with a criminal history mugged a 28-year-old Woodland Park woman, said Garfield police who charged him with aggravated assault and robbery. Wrong-Way Driver Dies In Route 80 Crash
An elderly driver headed the wrong way on westbound Route 80 was killed overnight when his sedan crashed into an SUV, responders said. The Audi driver -- apparently in his late 80s -- was declared dead at the scene of the crash on the Passaic River bridge in Woodland Park just after 4:30 a.m. Responders believe he was intoxicated. A $10,000 New Jersey Lottery ticket was sold in Woodland Park. The ticket was one of two from Tuesday's drawing and matched four of the five white balls and the Gold Mega Ball drawn. Three Hospitalized On Their Own, One Transported After Stabbing/Slashing Outside Paterson Bar
Three men and two women fled the scene of a stabbing/slashing overnight Saturday outside a Paterson nightspot, witnesses told police. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, although one victim was stabbed in the kidney area during the attack just after 3 a.m. on the corner of McBride and Glover avenues near the Woodland Park border, responders said. By sheer luck, members of a private ambulance crew were passing by at the time and rendered aid before police and city EMS arrived.
