Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Police Vehicle In South Jersey ID'd Authorities identified a man who was struck and killed by a police car in South Jersey before dawn on Thanksgiving as a 44-year-old resident of Berlin. Christofe “Christopher” Wita was hit on the White Horse Pike (Route 30) near Whispering Pine Drive in the Atco section of Camden County's Waterford Township at 2:19 a.m. Nov. 23, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said.  Wita was pronounced dead at the scene, Platkin said. Gerard Patrizio of East Hanover says the backyard and fence of his River Road home were damaged by a navy blue Ford pickup truck between 7:30 and 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. The truck just missed the home’s back driveway and almost drove into the in-ground pool, Patrizio said. The emergency brake apparently was off Tuesday night when the Jeep headed down the block and toppled in front of a home near the corner of Kipp Avenue and Prospect Street. Lodi Police Seek Hit-Run Driver What began as an argument between two drivers in Lodi ended when one had his foot run over by the other's fleeing vehicle, authorities said. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. Wednesday at Terhune Avenue and Marion Pepe Drive near Lodi Lanes, Lt. Robert Salerno said. Although the license plate of the fleeing SUV came to an East Orange owner, it didn't match any of the vehicle information, he said.

Falling Tree Hits Car, Blocks River Road In Elmwood Park ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- The driver was OK after a falling tree struck a vehicle in Elmwood Park during Thursday night's rainstorm, authorities said. Borough firefighters and EMS workers cut up the tree and cleared River Road at Martha Avenue after the tree fell just before 9:30 p.m. Police Chief Michael Foligno said. River Road traffic in both directions was temporarily diverted, the chief said. The driver escaped without injury, but the vehicle had to be towed, he said.
