For more than four years, an Elizabeth man lured out-of-state escorts to New Jersey with promises of tens of thousands of dollars for sex – then slapped, choked, raped and threatened them, authorities charged.
An indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Newark on Friday added two more victims, bringing the total to four charged to Jose Torres, 42.
Torres met the women through websites for online escorts and on Backpage.com beginning in May 2015, an FBI complaint on file in U.S. District Court in Newark says.

A Somerset County man flew to the Philipines several times to have sex with four underage victims after arranging meetings online, said federal authorities who arrested him.
James A. Diggs, 44, of Somerville, had his first appearance Wednesday before a U.S. magistrate judge on charges of online enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and foreign travel to engage in criminal sexual activity, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.

A South Jersey ex-con who was investigated after he bought a silencer online was found with dozens of guns, along with high-capacity magazines and ammo, said federal authorities who arrested him Friday.
Darick Nollett, 30, who lives in Cumberland County near the Delaware Bay, caught the attention of law enforcement when he bought a “fuel filter” – a device commonly used to silence firearms, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.
As a convicted felon, Nollett is prohibited from having weaponry.

Authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of a 48-year-old woman from Brick Township in connection with Sunday's murder of her spouse, law enforcement officials said.
Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus, 48, of Brick Township, was charged with killing Rebecca Gavilanez-Alectus, 32, at their home using a wine container, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Brick Township Police Chief James Riccio said in a statement.
