Arrest Made For Shots Fired During Wedding At Premiere Bergen Catering Hall
Northvale detectives charged a New York man with firing the shots during a wedding reception that brought an army of police to The Rockleigh catering hall last month. Ersin Kolenovic, 23, was released after being charged on Friday, Oct. 7, in connection with the Sept. 25 incident, Northvale Police Chief Howard Ostrow said. Officers summoned by a caller to the popular Paris Avenue venue shortly after 9:30 that night were told that shots had been fired inside and outside the hall, the chief said. UPDATE: One victim was confirmed dead and westbound Route 3 in East Rutherford was temporarily closed Wednesday morning following what was the most serious in a series of crashes on icy North Jersey roads. Smoky Roof Fire Doused At Bergen County Nursing Home
Firefighters doused a smoky blaze at a Bergen County nursing home Friday afternoon. The building was evacuated and there didn't initially appear to be any serious injuries after the fire broke out between the roof and second floor at the Russ Berrie Home for Jewish Living around 1:30 p.m., responders said. Officials promised to help find new "high-quality and compassionate" accommodations for residents of the Bergen County-run Health Care Center in Rockleigh before closing the facility by the end of this year. Several area companies responded overnight Thursday to a machine fire at a Rockleigh factory near the Rockland border. The blaze at the Carlee Corporation building on Piermont Road – less than a half-mile from Palisades, NY -- apparently ignited shortly after 1”15 a.m. in a machine that makes synthetic fiberfill, responders said. UPDATE: A downed power line may have been responsible for a smoky Paramus blaze doused by firefighters before dawn Thursday, responders said. The fire were reported shortly before 2 a.m. on the second floor and then the basement of a house, which had been used for offices of a construction company. on East Ridgewood Avenue just off northbound Route 17. Another Drive-In Theater Opens In Bergen County
The Ramsey Theatre has reopened as a drive-in theater after nearly four months of being closed due to COVID-19. The new pop-up location is in the Smith School parking lot on Monroe Street, and opened last week with showings of "Jurassic Park." This week's showings of "Sing" will be Tuesday and Wednesday, and "Secret Life of Pets" Thursday and Friday. Tickets are $25 per car -- $10 per car load and $15 for parking. The theater will begin selling tickets once an official announcement is made on its website. Sign up for email alerts here. Tipped Rig Dumps Load Of Mulch Near Bergen-Rockland Border
A dump truck spilled a load of mulch Monday afternoon near the Bergen-Rockland border, toppling a utility pole, yanking down power lines and spilling fuel. Brookside Auto & Towing sent a heavy-duty wrecker to Rockleigh to right the rig after the Piermont Road mishap. New Milford sent its Hazardous Materials Unit to handle the fuel spill. : Residential Property Tax Bills Spiked Highest In These North Jersey Towns
Residential property tax bills spiked across New Jersey -- again. A new report by NJ 101.5 found that the median residential tax increase among 565 municipalities in 2018 was 1.9 percent -- down from a 2.1 percent increase in 2017. Only three towns across Bergen and Passaic counties saw decreases in residential property taxes: East Rutherford, Alpine and West Milford. Missing Rockland Hikers Found, Firefighter Treated
A firefighter had to be treated for an undetermined injury after rescuers found four Rockland County hikers who’d become lost in the woods late Saturday night after crossing into New Jersey, responders said. One of the missing hikers was found near the Boy Scout camp in Alpine after they became lost in the Alpine-Rockleigh area, they said. Firefighters from Closter, Harrington Park, Old Tappan, Norwood and Northvale joined their colleagues from Orangetown in the search. The injured firefighter was taken to HUMC Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood.
