Paterson Elder Scammer Outsmarted By Would-Be Victim, Police Say
A quick-thinking Long Island man helped police nab a would-be elder scammer from Paterson who tried conning him out of thousands of dollars, authorities said.
Larry Urtarte, 28, allegedly called an 88-year-old man pretending he was his grandson on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in Long Beach, according to Nassau County Police. Urtarte said he'd been in an accident and needed money, detectives said.
The caller told the man to place $5,500 in cash into a package labeled “M2125” and that a person named Richard wearing a brown hat would come to pick it up.

A $6 shoplifting incident at a Pennsylvania Walmart that sent five police officers on a foot chase— two were bitten by the suspect, according to a police release on Tuesday, January 10.
Rygo Alexander Kingsley, 23, currently of Lancaster, PA, and native to North Brunswick, NJ, was acting "suspicious" at the Walmart located at 2030 Fruitville Pike on Nov. 29, 2022, authorities say.

Police: Wanted Upstate NY Driver With Gun Pepper-Sprayed After Running From PIP Traffic Stop
An Albany man wanted out of several jurisdictions tried to run from police after they stopped his car on the Palisades Interstate Parkway and found him carrying a gun, authorities said.
Ammar Ali, 33, was driving a 2002 Honda Civic that was stopped on the southbound parkway in Alpine shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, PIP Police Lt. Raymond E. Walter said.
Ali tried to identify himself as someone else, but Officer Amir Sikder was familiar with the man whose name he used, having stopped him once before, as well, Walter said.

Accused DWI Motorist Charged With Assaulting North Arlington Police
Two North Arlington police officers complained of pain after a driver who failed a sobriety field test resisted arrest, authorities said.
The officers had stopped Luis Alberto Carillo, 42, after seeing his vehicle being operated erratically on the Belleville Turnpike around 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 26, Police Chief Scott M. Hedenberg said.
Carillo failed a field test, then tussled with the officers before they subdued and arrested him, the chief said.
One officer reported shoulder pain, the other knee pain, but both refused medical attention, Hedenberg said.

US Marshals Look To Seize Lodi Driver Charged With Crashing Stolen Car During Route 46 Pursuit
A Lodi man who crashed a stolen car on Route 46 during a police chase will remain in the Bergen County Jail until U.S. Marshals can pick him up.
Samuel Sosa, 24, initially stopped the stolen 2010 Lincoln MKX at the highway on-ramp from Main Street near Chief Fire Equipment & Service around 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, following a hit-and-run on Avenue E, Lodi Police Sgt. Dominic Miller said.
