Judge Strikes Down NJ's Party Line Ballot System
Andy Kim: 1. New Jersey's party line ballot system: 0 In a legal ruling that will set off an earthquake among New Jersey party bosses, a judge ruled against the state's controversial party line ballot system. The system gives preferential treatment to candidates endorsed by the county party, issuing a preliminary injunction against the ballots for the upcoming June primary and ruling ballots must use office block ballots. Judge Zahid Quraishi announced his ruling on Friday, March 29, siding with Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ), who had filed a federal lawsuit seeking to get the line thrown out. …

NJ Resumes COVID Early Inmate Release Program
As many as 1,200 New Jersey prison inmates and at least 10 sex offenders could be freed during another round of early pandemic releases, state corrections sources say. No public notice was given by Gov. Phil Murphy’s office of the latest releases, which corrections officials said resumed Thursday with 260 inmates freed. Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) said. An estimated 40%…

The 7-year-old pit bull later died as the result of being severely undernourished, the prosecutor said. An animal rights group launched a campaign in February 2020 in an effort to get justice for Tori, the dog that Wydrinski had apparently recently adopted and then subs…

The Sunday story centered on an investigation by state authorities -- prompted by state Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi -- into what residents fear is a toxic discharge into Pleasant Brook. In a 9:45 a.m. email to Daily Voice on Monday, Minichetti wrote: "You do know that t…

Bergen Democrat To Resign From NJ Assembly For 'Different Position'
Bergen County Democrat Timothy Eustace will be resigning from the state Assembly Friday, NJ.com reports. The 61-year-old Maywood resident is the second openly gay person ever to have been elected to the New Jersey legislature. Eustace said he is moving on to a "different position" but did not disclose anything more, the article says. Eustace and his late partner Kevin Williams were New Jersey's first openly gay couple to apply to the state for joint adoption in the 1980s. The couple later adopted three children who had contracted AIDS. Eustace served as Maywood's mayor from 2008…
