Police ID Missing Fisherman Found Dead In NJ Lake
Police have identified the fisherman who went missing and was later found dead in a New Jersey lake. Valeri Malov, of Pine Brook, had gone fishing in the body of water behind an industrial complex on Chapin Road Saturday morning, Aug. 24, Montville Police Chief Andrew Caggiano said. Responding officers found his fishing equipment on the shoreline and began a search of the area. Malov's body was found the following day around 8:50 p.m. in the water, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Caggiano said. A 33-year-old man wanted by the U.S. Marshals was arrested following a traffic stop in Morris County, police said. Marcus Olivera-Leon, of Elizabeth, was stopped in an unregistered vehicle for having a brake light out on Augusta Street and Legion Place in Denville around 9:40 p.m. on Aug. 23, local police said. Olivera-Leon, had active warrants for his arrest, and had been wanted by the United States Marshals, according to police. Police said only that he was wanted for violating probation. Police were investigating a possible drowning at a North Jersey lake over the weekend. A man in his 70s was seen entering Lake Hopatcong but never came out on Saturday, June 22, a spokesperson for the Roxbury Police Department said.
