Midland Park Carpenter David Laauwe Dies, 42 David Laauwe of Midland Park died on July 21. He was 42 years old. Born in Ridgewood he has lived in Midland Park all his life. He was a carpenter by trade and was a former member of the NYC Carpenter’s union. David loved fishing, camping and quiet walks in the woods. He is preceded in death by his mother Janice Laauwe (nee Breur). He is survived by his father Alfred Laauwe and brother Gregory Laauwe. Visitation is July 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road in Franklin Lakes. Burial will be held privately at George Washington Memorial Park.

Ralph Warner, a fifth grader at the Highland School, was named the "Player of the Game" as he recovered in the ICU with a broken skull and two brain bleeds after Saturday's game at the Cal Ripken Baseball Tournament in Aberdeen, MD.  Ralph's team (11U) was the first in Midland Park history to make it to the champion section of the tournament. Uniformed officers from Midland Park, Ridgewood and Waldwick chased the furry forager through area yards. The bear played in trash, sunbathed on the grass, then hustled his tuchus up a tree behind a home on Evergreen Street around lunchtime. Right behind was intrepid photographer Boyd Loving. Officer Michael Flim stopped a black Trailblazer with New York license plates on the southbound side of the highway after the driver “appeared to have difficulty keeping the vehicle within its lane of travel,” Lt. Driver Taken Into Custody After Pulling Into Ridgewood Driveway Ridgewood police took a driver into custody Wednesday afternoon -- apparently for being under the influence -- after she drove into a resident's driveway. A flatbed tow truck removed the four-door Ford Fusion from the Maltbie Avenue driveway to take it to an impound lot after the owner said it hit his car from behind. Midland Park police assisted Ridgewood officers with the investigation and arrest.  It was unclear whether the homeowner and driver know one another. Boyd A. Loving contributed to this article.
