Route 208 Closed By Downed Power Lines, Cluster Of Brush Fires Doused
Power lines that fell across Route 208 closed the highway in both directions and ignited several small noontime brush fires. Massive jams stretched beyond eyesight in each direction as police detoured traffic at De Boer Drive in Glen Rock, where the wires fell around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, and Rea Avenue in Hawthorne. UPDATE: A retired Teaneck police officer was critically injured when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it struck a defective piece of roadway on Route 208, authorities said. The 59-year-old rider from Rochelle Park was headed north on the highway De Boer Drive when he rode over a defective expansion joint shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday, Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. A young man was seriously injured in a crash in Glen Rock. A Toyota Celica with temporary license plates rammed a Toyota RAV 4 at the corner of Maple Avenue and Rodney Street late Saturday afternoon. A worker from Hudson County suffered severe injuries to both legs Wednesday when he was pinned between a bucket truck and a pole in Glen Rock, authorities said. A man in his 50s was struck and killed by a commuter train in Glen Rock Wednesday morning. The victim was struck near the Glen Rock Borough Hall train station at 9:22 a.m., NJ TRANSIT said. A 92-year-old woman was struck by a sedan while in a parking lot in Glen Rock Mother's Day, authorities said. The woman was crossing on the 800 block of Prospect Street when a 2010 Honda driven by a 36-year-old Fair Lawn man hit her around 6:15 p.m., Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. The Honda driver remained at the scene and the woman was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, by the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, with non-life-threatening injuries, Ackerman said.

A 25-year-old Fort Lee man collected child pornography and exchanged nude images during sexually explicit conversations with children, authorities charged.
