North Jersey residents are feeling the impact of this week's storm with thousands still without power and schools closed or delayed. Another Storm Nears: Weather Service Warns Of Event Causing More Flooding In NJ, PA
Yet another storm system is working its way toward the region, the National Weather Service warns. Northern New Jersey and Southeast Pennsylvania will remain in a flood stage through the end of the week, when the second storm is set to arrive, the NWS said. Tracking Weekend Snow, Mid-Week Rain Storms Both Heading Toward Northeast
Parts of the region will be shoveling out of several inches of snow from the weekend when another strong storm system moves in, forecasters are saying. On Friday, Jan. 5, the National Weather Service released a new model showing between eight and 12 inches of snow in Sussex and Warren counties in New Jersey, and the Pocono mountains in PA (scroll for map). A new storm system tracking along the East Coast is expected to drop several inches of rain on the region in the next two days, meteorologists say. The chances of a white Christmas this year are looking slim, and the end of the year is looking wet. The holiday weekend will be mostly dry with mild temps before a post-Christmas storm moves in over the Northeast on Tuesday night, Dec. 26, according to AccuWeather. Continued Flooding Closes Paterson Schools For Rest Of Week
Students at Paterson Public Schools will not be returning to school until next year. The school district announced schools will be closed Thursday, Dec. 21 and Friday, Dec. 22 as the city continues to deal with the devastation of weekend flooding. Schools have been closed since Tuesday, Dec. 19, following an early dismissal on Monday, Dec. 18, as numerous streets in the city were closed due to several inches of accumulated water. School will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2. The district said the school calendar will be updated to ensure students get 180 days of instruction.

Paterson Public Schools announced all schools will be closed again on Wednesday, Dec. 20, as the city continues to deal with the devastation of weekend flooding. A New Jersey town where flooding has apparently worsened since the weekend storm has declared a State of Emergency. Wayne Township residents in areas that are prone to flooding were urged to self-evacuate on Monday, Dec. 18. As of Tuesday, Dec. 19, the area from the Passaic River at Little Falls "entered major flood stage" and was only expected to rise until cresting this evening, township officials said. Animals Displaced By Flooding Rescued By North Jersey Shelter
The dedicated workers of a North Jersey animal shelter worked tirelessly to save more than a dozen displaced pets from the floodwaters ravaging one of its partners in Vermont.
