Firefighters Douse Ridgewood Garage Blaze
Ridgewood firefighters doused a smoky detached-garage blaze Monday morning. Firefighters contended with a live downed power line as they kept flames from spreading to the Avondale Road home shortly after 8:30 a.m. They had the fire knocked down within 10 minutes or so. Video Captures Explosion In Massive Jersey City Fire, At Least 20 Homeless
A 4-alarm fire tore through a row of Jersey City homes early April 5. Nearly two dozen Terrace Avenue residents were displaced as a result. At least two people were rescued from the homes, before flames spread to a car parked in front of one of them, NBC reports. Footage captured by neighbor Sky Aviles shows the moment a car tire exploded in the massive blaze that brought more than 100 firefighters to the scene. The cause remains under investigation. Junior Firefighter Critically Injured In Ridgefield Park Blaze
UPDATE: A firefighter and police officer saved the life of a junior firefighter from Ridgefield Park when he was critically injured in an explosion behind a village restaurant, authorities said Monday. The 17-year-old Ridgefield Park High School senior remained in stable but critical condition following several surgeries at Hackensack University Medical Center, they said. UPDATE: A smoky two-alarm fire ravaged a Fair Lawn home on Tuesday. No injuries were immediately reported in the moments after the two-alarm fire broke out in the single-story Pomona Avenue residence shortly after 11 a.m. “The fire was in the rear of the house and spreading," Fair Lawn Fire Chief Thomas Carney said. Firefighters doused a Thursday afternoon blaze that damaged units on two floors of a Fort Lee condominium. Flames blew through two first-floor windows after breaking out in a crawlspace in the five-story brick Central Court Condominiums on Central Road shortly before 2 p.m. Firefighters had the two-alarm blaze knocked down in about an hour and under control before 3:30 p.m. It was later ruled accidental. Firefighters backed out soon after responding to the call at Metro View Grille on Haledon Avenue around 11 p.m. as flames shot through the roof of the single-story building, responders said. Flames shot out the second-floor windows and into the eaves of a Garfield multi-family home on Sunday. Passaic Firefighter Injured In Christmas Tree Blaze
Passaic firefighters kept a Christmas tree blaze from spreading Sunday night. A firefighter was hospitalized with a cut on his right hand in the two-alarm Passaic Avenue blaze, which broke out around 9 p.m. Firefighters quickly knocked it down before Battalion Chief Hayowyk declared the fire under control in under 40 minutes. Roof Section Blown Off Hawthorne Mixed Use Buildings
Powerful winds from the overnight Christmas storm blew a section of roof from a row of storefronts with apartments in Hawthorne. No injuries were reported in the Lafayette Avenue mishap, which firefighters said occured shortly before 12:30 a.m. They said they arrived to find the roof section resting on power lines. Firefighters made sure residents were OK, then checked for hazards and possible structural damage until nearly 3 a.m.

22 Cats Rescued In Hawthorne Fire
VIDEO: Firefighters rescued 22 cats in a Hawthorne house blaze on Wednesday. The two-alarm fire broke out on the top floor of the three-family home on Westervelt Avenue shortly after 12:30 p.m., officials said. A deck gun helped knocked down the fire, which was placed under control about an hour after it began then spent another two hours dousing hot spots.
