'We Will Find You,' Nutley Police Say After Repeat Minnesota Burglar's 4th Crime
Police in Essex County are hoping that a Minnesota man's second burglary in a month arrest will be a lesson to other criminals. "Let this be a warning for those that think they will get away," Nutley Police Director Alphonse Petracco said. "If you commit a crime in Nutley we will identify, arrest and prosecute you." Man Charged In Deadly Union County Stabbing
A 52-year-old man has been charged in a deadly Plainfield stabbing, authorities said. Marcelo Ixcuna-Castro killed Jose Maria Ixcuna-Chach, 37, on the 500 block of W Front Street around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 28, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Plainfield Police Director James T. Abney said. It was not clear how the two were related. Ixcuna-Castro was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries before being released into custody without incident. A prisoner at the Essex County Jail was charged with murder for the stabbing death of another inmate, authorities announced. Ashton D. Barthelus, 26, of Carteret, stabbed Dan G. Milford Gelin, 27, of Elizabeth, at the correctional facility last week, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said. Two men with lengthy arrest records have been arrested in connection with two armed robberies -- one in Livingston and another in West Orange, local police said. Shyhiem Clark, 24, of Newark, and Tyrese Thompson, 22, of Elizabeth, were charged in connection with the Sept. 27 incident at a Mount Pleasant Avenue store, according to police in West Orange. Two burglars who tried to blend in as home-repair contractors in Lyndhurst were arrested following a police pursuit that ended when they crashed a stolen commercial truck in Newark, authorities said. Union County Jail Closing, Transferring Inmates To Essex In Move To Save $103M
The Union County Jail will be closing its Elizabeth facility and transferring its inmates to the Essex County Jail in Newark -- saving the county more than $103 million. Effective July 1, inmate housing will cease and the Elizabeth facility will begin operating only a hub to intake, process, temporarily detain and transport prisoners to the Essex County Jail.
