Firefighters were battling a massive wildfire in Ocean County that broke out late Monday, Sept. 9, officials said. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the fire was burning near Fishers Pit, a sand and gravel pit in the Bayville section of Berkeley Township. The NJFFS first posted on Twitter about the wildfire at 7:30 p.m. Monday. As of Tuesday morning, the fire had been 20 percent contained to 150 acres, after spreading near Northern Boulevard in the Barnegat Pines neighborhood of Berkeley. Sidewalk Save: Bodycam Footage Shows NJ Officers Saving Choking Baby
Newly-released body-worn camera footage shows two New Jersey police officers saving a choking baby. Hightstown Officers Daniel Abbatemarco and Kenneth Larsen responded to a call of a choking baby girl on March 31. Upon arrival, they were met by a man holding the girl. Larsen arrived on scene and quickly performed the Infant Heimlich Maneuver on the girl, who was breathing again in a matter of seconds. Tree Destroys House In Wyckoff
A Wyckoff home was destroyed by a tree that came crashing through during a quick-hitting storm on Saturday, Sept. 7. It happened just before 4: 30 p.m. on Monroe Avenue, when strong winds and rain swept through the region. Photos shared by Boyd A. Loving show the damage to the ranch-style home. Flames Shoot From Roof Of Clifton Home
A fire ripped through the roof of a Clifton home early Monday, Aug. 26. Photos from the scene show flames blowing through the roof of the Madeline Avenue house around 2 a.m. Clifton units operated at an early morning structure fire on the east side of the city, shortly after 2 AM. The fire was placed under control within 2 hours with the help of mutual aid from surrounding towns. Teen Airlifted In UTV Accident On Sussex County Farm: Police
An 18-year-old male was airlifted to the hospital following a crash on a Sussex County farm on Monday, Aug. 26, local police said. The male was riding on the back of the UTV, a larger type of ATV, which was being used to perform work on a farm on Layton Lane in Sparta, Sparta Police Capt. Tom Snyder said. The UTV made an unexpected turn and the victim lost his balance, falling off and hitting his head, Snyder said. He lost consciousness and was flown to the hospital. "The operator of the UTV was fully cooperative with patrol units and showed no signs of intoxication," Snyder said.

4-Year-Old Stabbed Multiple Times In Paterson, Prosecutor Says
A 4-year-old child was rushed to the hospital after being stabbed multiple times in Paterson Friday, Aug. 23, authorities said. The incident happened near East 24th Street and 10th Avenue just after 4 p.m., Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi said. The victim was immediately taken to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson for treatment and has been admitted and is in stable condition. The investigation remains active and ongoing. A boy was airlifted to a hospital after officials say he stepped on hot coals that had been illegally dumped on a New Jersey beach. A man on an outing with his family at Harriman State Park drowned after jumping into the lake and swimming about 100 feet away. The incident occurred in Rockland County around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, at Lake Sebago in Stony Point. A 44-year-old Irvington woman was convicted of manslaughter on Friday, Aug. 9 in the death of a two-year-old child she was babysitting in 2021, authorities said. Claire Gelin was babysitting the victim from Feb. 15 to Feb. 19 in her Irvington apartment, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. The child sustained serious from physical abuse on Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, but Gelin did not call 911 until Friday, Feb. 19, Stephens said.
