FBI: Four From NJ, NY, PA Charged With Kidnapping Man, Demanding $100,000 Ransom
A group of men from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York kidnapped a man on a Camden street, beat him and held him captive while trying to extort a $100,000 ransom from his family, federal authorities charged.
The victim was grabbed from behind last Thursday night by his abductors, who “covered his head, bound him with plastic restraints, assaulted him and put him into a vehicle,” Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said.
They then drove him to a city residence where they “continued to beat him with a hard object the victim could not see,” she said.

'No Questions Asked': NJ Buys Back Nearly 1,000 Guns
Authorities collected nearly 1,000 guns during no-questions-asked gun buybacks in Passaic, Essex and Atlantic counties, New Jersey’s top law enforcer said Thursday. They could soon be coming to a location near you.
The firearms came in all sizes, calibers, makes, models and ages, from a pearl-handled derringer to a reported 27 assault weapons.
The total also includes 487 handguns, 281 rifles and shotguns and 146 inoperable weapons and BB/pellet guns, New Jersey Acting Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck said.

Tornado Watch Issued Across 16 New Jersey Counties
The National Weather Service on Thursday afternoon issued a tornado watch across 16 New Jersey counties.
The watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. across Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties.
The watch -- less severe than a warning -- was also issued for most of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Storms were expected to arrive between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., and end between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Straight-line winds, large hail, lightning and flash flooding are also possible.
2nd Child Dies In South Jersey Rollover Crash
Two children have died following a rollover crash earlier this month in South Jersey.
Camden's Jesus Diaz, 5, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Route 55 incident in Vineland on July 7, around 11:30 p.m., authorities said.
Then, on July 11, Carlos Diaz, 6, of Camden, passed away, police said.
The two boys were among five children ejected from the Toyota Sienna driven by a 35-year-old Camden mom, New Jersey State Police said.

Historic Drug Seizure Near Atlantic City Nets Fentanyl, Heroin, Coke, Feds Say
Local and federal authorities seized more than 30 pounds of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine – the area’s largest narcotics haul in history -- while raiding a basement drug mill just outside Atlantic City, authorities said.
A federal judge in Camden ordered via videoconference that Ricardo Clavijo, 39, who lives in the Egg Harbor Township home, and Christopher Gonzalez, 37, of Pleasantville, remain held without bail, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said.

Grand Jurors Indict 14 In Shooting Of NJ State Trooper
Fourteen people were indicted Monday in connection with the shooting of a New Jersey State Police detective who was investigating a trailer park home invasion.
Attempted murder and aggravated assault charges were returned by a state grand jury in Trenton against Najzeir “Naz” Hutchings 22, Kareen “Kai” Warner, 20, and ex-con Tremaine Hadden, 28, all of Bridgeton, state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said.
Eleven other defendants were indicted on various charges, he said.

Child Killed, 6 Injured In Route 55 Vineland Crash
A young boy was killed and six others from South Jersey were hurt in a rollover crash late Wednesday, authorities said.
A Toyota Sienna went off of Route 55 in Vineland, then overturned into the lanes of travel, according to State Police. The Toyota minivan was then struck by a Chevrolet Cruze, according to Sgt. Alejandro Goez, a NJSP spokesman.
The driver of the Toyota, Elvira Lopez-Mendoza, 35, of Camden, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Cooper University Hospital, Goez said.
