Charges Upgraded Against Teaneck Restaurant Manager In Double-Fatal DWI Crash
UPDATE: Authorities have upgraded charges against a Teaneck restaurant manager who they said was drunk when he slammed his speeding car into a tree, killing two of his passengers. Teddy Mejia, 32, originally was charged with death by auto following the horrific Oct. 21 crash that killed Rudy Rosales Escobar, 40, of Hasbrouck Heights, and Alexander Cosme Curruchich, 29, of Englewood. An attendee at a jewelry expo was robbed at knifepoint outside a hotel in the Meadowlands, authorities confirmed. At least four robbers converged on the victim as he loaded his vehicle outside the Renaissance Meadowlands Hotel just off Routes 3 and 17 in Rutherford around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, authorities said. A deejay from Paterson was one of five carjackers who robbed a victim at gunpoint in the Target parking lot along the Hudson River in Edgewater earlier this year, authorities charged. UPDATE: A judge in Hackensack released Tenafly Council President Jeffrey D. Grossman and his son from jail on Wednesday, but both must remain under house arrest at the family's home while they await trial on charges of child porn possession. A habitual offender with an apparent affinity for FedEx packages was identified and charged by Rutherford police who caught him in the act, authorities said.
